Upcoming Course Support and Workshops
Coursework Support Offerings
The MCF offers hands-on learning experiences for students as a part of our mission to support student education in materials characterization. See the Coursework Support Options document for details.
Options include
- Guest lecture (materials characterization overview from Dr. Lightcap) and facilitiy tour
- Forensic fiber analysis (Confocal Raman Microscope)
- Thin film & device characterization (High Resolution X-Ray Diffraction-XRD)
- Surface chemistry: elemental and oxidation state analysis (X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy-XPS)
- The "unknown" identification challenge (FTIR, Raman, and XRD)
Individual Trainings and Group Workshops
Individual trainings and group workshops on specific instruments are also conducted. Workshops provide fundamental technical principles and practical sample preparation and measurement tips that are required to acquire high quality data. Time for running user samples and practicing sample preparation skills and data acquisition and analysis are also key components of the workshops.
To schedule a training session, workshop, or tour the facility, please contact Ian Lightcap, Research and Facilities Program Director, at ilightca@nd.edu.
